by Jessica Polko St. Louis placed Cal Eldred on the disabled list yesterday. Eldred developed what was initially labeled an upper respiratory infection around Opening Day. At first, his condition appeared to improve, but early last week, he suffered a relapse and was hospitalized while he underwent testing. The tests uncovered a virus that is causing inflammation in the lining and muscles of his heart. He will rest for a minimum of three to four weeks before beginning to slowly return to baseball activities, so he likely will not be able to rejoin the Cardinals until at least June.
