by Jessica Polko Oakland was not able to avoid an arbitration hearing with Juan Cruz. When teams and players exchanged arbitration figures, the A's offered $600,000 while Cruz requested $860,000. Yesterday, a panel of arbitrators ruled in favor of Oakland, awarding Cruz a one-year, $600,000 contract.
