by Jessica Polko This September the White Sox only called up Arnie Munoz, Jeff Bajenaru, and Wilson Valdez while activating Sandy Alomar from the disabled list. Bajenaru signed with Chicago in 2000 as a nondrafted free agent out of the University of Oklahoma. He worked his way though A+ Winston Salem in the Carolina League and tasted AA before missing the 2002 season due to injury. The 26-year-old opened this season at AA Birmingham in the Southern League, where he spent all of 2003, but advanced midseason to AAA Charlotte in the International League. Prior to joining the major league team, he compiled a 16:3 K:BB with 12 H and 2 HR allowed in 20 IP for a 1.80 ERA over 16 appearances at AAA. Chicago is giving him regular work this month, and during his call-up, he's displayed the control troubles that were present in some of his minor league performances, but as long as the White Sox do not plunge him into a high impact role immediately, he could be ready to break camp in their bullpen next spring. The club will use this month and spring training to evaluate his preparedness. He also may participate in the Arizona Fall League.
