by Jessica Polko Seattle called up 3B-L Greg Dobbs, Mickey Lopez, Jeremy Reed, and Aaron Taylor after the triple-A season regular season ended. Dobbs signed with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Oklahoma in 2001. He split the remainder of that season between Everett in the Short-Season Northwest League and A+ San Bernardino in the California League. After spending most of 2002 at A Wisconsin in the Midwest League and advancing to AA San Antonio later in the season, he ruptured his left Achilles tendon in early April of 2003, which caused him to miss the remainder of the year. Dobbs returned to AA this spring, but in early July Seattle promoted him to AAA Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League, where he hit .271 with a .286 OBP and .416 SLG on 69 H, 9 2B, and 8 HR with a 5:36 BB:K and 4/7 SB% in 255 AB. The 26-year-old appears to possess modest power skills, and prior to this season, he displayed promising plate discipline. While another half-year at AAA probably would help solidify his skills, his age likely will exclude him from attaining anything more than a major league bench job. Unfortunately, he probably will not receive many at-bats in which to make an impression this month.
