by Jessica Polko The White Sox placed Sandy Alomar on the disabled list on August 17th. Alomar pulled a groin muscle on his left side when Kevin Youkilis collided with him at the plate in the third inning of Chicago's August 15th game in Boston. The 38-year-old is unlikely to recover from the injury in less than a month, and he could easily miss the rest of the regular season. In conjunction with Alomar's move to the DL, Chicago also claimed Alex Escobar off waivers and placed him on the disabled list while calling up Jamie Burke. While in the minors in early July, Escobar suffered a stress in his right foot, requiring season ending surgery. Frustrated with his lack of production and relentless injury troubles, the Indians designated him for assignment on August 8th and ultimately chose to place him on release waivers. The White Sox seem quite tickled by their pick-up and likely will give the 25-year-old a chance to earn a spot on their roster next spring.
