by Jessica Polko Pittsburgh placed Dave Williams on the disabled list on August 14th. Williams strained a muscle on the right side of his ribcage in his appearance during the Pirates August 12th game against San Francisco. The strain was not serious, but the 25-year-old aggravated it while sneezing the following morning, causing Pittsburgh to send him to the disabled list rather than play a man short in the pen for a week. Williams expects to be ready to rejoin the team when he is first eligible to come off the DL on August 28th, though the Pirates may hold him back until September roster expansion if the club does not want to worry about clearing a roster spot.
