by Jessica Polko The Yankees placed RHP Mike Mussina on the disabled list on July 16th. Mussina injured his groin in mid-June, causing him to push back a start, and although he did not appear to have regained his rhythm, he pitched both of his last two starts before the break on only three days rest. He reported soreness in his elbow following his July 6th start, but a battery of tests revealed nothing more than inflammation, so the Yankees expected him back after the All-Star Break. New York moved him to the disabled list when his elbow stiffened during the night after he'd thrown a bullpen session. The 35-year-old feels the setback was a result of trying to return too quickly, so he will not rush to test it again. Consequently, I do not expect Mussina to rejoin the rotation before early August even though he will be eligible to come off the disabled list on July 22nd.
