by Jessica Polko Baltimore placed Melvin Mora on the disabled list on July 5th. Mora sprained a ligament in his left foot during Baltimore's June 17th game at L.A., sidelining him for almost two weeks. He only had been back in the lineup for three games when he strained his right hamstring during Baltimore's July 2nd game in Philadelphia. When he did not immediately respond to treatment, Baltimore decided to place him on the DL over the All-Star Break. The club hopes the 32-year-old will be able to rejoin the team when he is first eligible to leave the disabled list on July 18th. Unfortunately, this injury appears to have robbed Mora of his appointment to the All-Star team. Even if Joe Torre suspected Mora would need to decline for medical reasons, he still should have named the third baseman to the team.
