by Jessica Polko Texas placed Herbert Perry on the disabled list yesterday. Perry strained his right calf while running prior to the Rangers' game in Cleveland on Monday. A similar injury sidelined Perry for almost a week in late April, and since the doctors reportedly recommended at least a week of rest, the Rangers decided to send the 34-year-old to the disabled list. Provided he does not suffer any setbacks, Perry should be ready to rejoin the team when he is eligible to leave the DL on July 20th. Manny Alexander replaced Perry on the roster. Alexander was hitting .292 with a .332 OBP and .495 SLG on 82 H, 25 2B, 4 3B, and 8 HR with a 17:34 BB:K and 7/11 SB% in 281 AB at AAA Oklahoma. I do not expect such a robust offensive performance from him in the majors, but his presence will allow Texas to give their infielders a bit more rest. The Rangers placed Laynce Nix on the disabled list on June 14th. Nix sprained his right shoulder when he collided with the outfield wall at Ameriquest Field in Arlington while trying to catch a fly ball in Texas' June 10th game against the Cardinals. Although the initial projections indicated he might be ready to return as soon as he was eligible to come off the DL, lingering pain delayed the start of his rehab assignment. When he finally began the assignment last week, he aggravated the injury so there is no firm estimate of when he will be able to rejoin the team.
