Kansas City dealt Jason Grimsley to Baltimore for Denny Bautista yesterday.

The Orioles acquired Bautista from Florida last season in the Jeff Conine trade. Rather than advancing him to AAA, Baltimore assigned Bautista to AA Bowie in the Eastern League to open the season. While his strikeout rate probably tempted the Orioles to promote him, his history of control difficulties made a AA assignment more sensible. Unfortunately, Baltimore's failure to contain their excitement over his early season success led to a three-day stint in the majors in late May after which he returned to Bowie with a major league ERA of 36.00.
