LAustin Translation

Austin Kearns returned to the disabled list on June 8th less than three weeks after his last stint on the DL ended. Kearns recovered from his broken arm surprisingly quickly and was able to begin a rehab assignment only two weeks after the injury occurred. He spent over a week at AAA before the Reds activated him from the disabled list on May 19th. Unfortunately, at some point Kearns cracked a callous on the thumb of his right hand, creating an open sore. He remained in the lineup while receiving a variety of treatments and keeping it wrapped and then tried resting for a few days. However, when the sore had not healed despite Kearns spending a week on the sidelines, Cincinnati moved him to the DL retroactive to June 2nd. While he will be eligible to return on June 17th, he's been ordered not to pick up a bat until the wound has fully healed, as the team believes that constant tests prevented the sore from healing while he was on the bench. Consequently, this DL stint may drag on until close to July.
