by Jessica Polko Arizona placed Matt Kata on the disabled list on May 30th. Kata dislocated his left shoulder diving for a ball in the second inning of the Diamondbacks' May 29th game in Los Angeles. Arizona believes that Kata's shoulder capsule and rotator cuff are intact, so he likely will not need surgery. Current estimates indicate he could return in four to six weeks, however too much blood evidently remained in the traumatized area for his MRI results to be conclusive. The Diamondbacks plan to try to get a clearer picture on the damage about a week from now. Kata luckily appears not to have sustained a season-ending injury, but since he will not receive a clear diagnosis for at least another week, I suspect he'll be out closer to six to eight weeks rather than four to six.
