by Jessica Polko Philadelphia placed Billy Wagner on the disabled list yesterday. Severe back spasms sidelined Wagner for the first half of the week, but he was feeling better on Thursday. Then, as he was warming up to enter the Phillies' game in San Francisco, he strained his groin. While the strain is considered mild, Philadelphia felt he might as well visit the disabled list and rest, especially since his absence from recent games allowed the club to make the move retroactive to May 8th. He will make an effort to rejoin the team when he's first eligible to leave the DL on May 23rd, but he understands that rushing his recovery from this injury could cause it to linger. Barring setbacks, I expect him to resume closing sometime during the Phillies' homestand that begins May 27th.
