by Jessica Polko Last week, Detroit dealt LHP Jon Connolly and a player to be named later to the Cubs for Felix Sanchez. The Tigers drafted Connolly out of high school with a 28th round pick in 2001. Connolly has not posted high strikeout rates, but he's demonstrated excellent control prior to this season. He opened the season with Detroit's A+ Florida State League at Lakeland and simply transferred to the Cubs' team at Daytona in the same league after the trade. Barring a move to relief, I don't expect him to be in position to receive a major league call-up before late 2006. His performance in the upper minors should give us a better idea of his potential, but he's a promising addition to the Chicago minors. While Sanchez was on the Cubs' 40-man roster, Connolly does not yet need to be placed on the 40-man, so this trade accomplished Chicago's goal of clearing a place on that roster for Glendon Rusch.
