by Jessica Polko Anaheim reliever Brendan Donnelly broke his nose when he was hit in the face by a ball while shagging flies during batting practice on March 9th. He underwent surgery that afternoon in order to set the 20 fractures inflicted by the injury. The 32-year-old had the splint removed from his nose yesterday and should pitch in a game before next week. According to a report by the L.A. Times, Donnelly was picking up another ball when Jarrod Washburn yelled to warn him about a fly hit by Chone Figgins, causing Donnelly to turn his face into the approaching ball. Washburn spent most of last spring recovering from a shoulder injury incurred when he fell while trying to avoid a collision with Donnelly during pitchers' fielding practice in early March.
