by Jessica Polko San Francisco re-signed J.T. Snow to a one-year, $1.75M contract that includes a $250,000 buyout on a $2M option for 2005. If Snow reaches 450 plate appearances, the option reportedly becomes guaranteed. I didn't find him worthy of over $6M/year, but at this price I have no objections to the Giants retaining the Gold Glove first baseman. San Francisco signed Michael Tucker to a two-year, $3.5M contract yesterday. By completing the deal when they did, the Giants gave away their first round draft pick to the Royals, who were not planning on offering Tucker arbitration. Reports indicate the Giants did not want to worry about paying a first round draft pick and timed the signing accordingly. I strongly disapprove of such antics, as I'm certain they could have found someone within their price range to draft. The worst that could happen would be that their draft pick might go unsigned, but I suppose fans react more negatively to not signing a pick than to losing it because of a free agent signing.
