by Jessica Polko Yesterday, OF-L Carlos Delgado tied the major league record for home runs in a game with four. Delgado shares the record for home runs in a single game with 14 other players. He's the sixth player to ever accomplish the feat in four consecutive at-bats. Hitting fourth in the first inning, Delgado drove in OF-L Frank Catalanotto and OF-R Vernon Wells with a homer to center off Tampa Bay starter RHP Jorge Sosa. With that shot, Delgado became the 98th player to reach 300 career home runs. The first inning was the only time that Delgado came to the plate with runners on base, because he led off the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings. Despite the fact that his last three homers were solo shots, he surpassed Colorado OF-R Preston Wilson for the major league lead in RBI before the evening ended.
