by Jessica Polko The Expos' players voted Friday to play all of their 2004 home games in Montreal. MLB is not running the franchise in a competitive manner. MLB does not intend to relocate the club or turn it over to new ownership before the end of the 2004 season. Rather than committing to maintaining competitiveness if players agreed to a split home schedule, ownership hinted at inevitable dismantlement if they failed to acquiesce. This month the Expos have activated Scott Stewart, Mike Barrett, and Claudio Vargas from the disabled list while signing Jose Mercedes to a major league deal, but the club has failed to call up any of the numerous young players they have at AAA, who deserve a major league audition and who could have significantly aided the Expos in the wild card race. Consequently, I see no reason for the players to accede to Baseball Expos LP desire to add to increase revenue.
