When rosters first expanded, Los Angeles called Steve Colyer, Chad Hermansen, Koyie Hill, Masao Kida, Rodney Myers, Jason Romano, Wilkin Ruan, and Joe Thurston while also activating Todd Hundley from the DL. Only Hill and Thurston didn't spend time in the majors prior to September this year and neither of them were greeted with the same anticipation as Edwin Jackson, the pitcher L.A. promoted Monday night.

The Dodgers drafted Jackson out of high school with their 6th round pick of the 2001 draft. He reported to their Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate after signing and then advanced to A South Georgia in the South Atlantic League last year. Skipping over A+, Jackson spent the 2003 season at AA Jacksonville in the Southern League, where he compiled a 157:53 K:BB with 121 H and 9 HR allowed in 148.1 IP for a 3.70 ERA over 27 starts.

Pitching on his 20th birthday, Jackson made his major league debut as L.A.'s starting pitcher for their September 9th game in Arizona. He retired the first three batters he faced, Steve Finley on a grounder followed by Junior Spivey and Luis Gonzalez on fly balls. Jackson allowed the first hit of his major league career to Raul Mondesi, who singled to left to lead off the bottom of the second inning. However, he followed it with his first K, striking out Lyle Overbay swinging. Over 6 IP, Jackson compiled a 4:0 K:BB with 4 H and 0 HR allowed for a 1.50 ERA.
