by Jessica Polko St. Louis completed two trades yesterday. In the first the Cardinals sent two players to be named later to Milwaukee for Mike DeJean. Later in the day, St. Louis dealt Justin Pope and Ben Julianel to the Yankees for Sterling Hitchcock. The Cardinals drafted Julianel out of San Diego State University with their 12th round pick in the 2001 draft. After finishing the 2001 season with New Jersey in the Short-Season New York-Pennsylvania League, he spent 2002 at A Peoria in the Midwest League. The 23-year-old returned to Peoria this year and had compiled a 78:25 K:BB with 41 H and 1 HR allowed in 51.2 IP for a 1.05 ERA over 51 appearances at the time of the trade.
