by Jessica Polko An antsy Jim Hendry continues to tinker with the Cubs. On Tuesday, the Cubs' GM dealt RHP Enmanuel Ramires (Emmanuel Ramirez) to the Rockies for Tony Womack. Chicago signed Ramires out of the Dominican Republic as Pedro Olivero in 1999. His name and age changed in the off-season and no one can seem to agree on how to spell his new handle. After a season and a half with Chicago's Dominican Summer League team he spent another year and a half with their Rookie-level Arizona League affiliate. Ramires played his first year of full-season ball with Lansing in the A Midwest League in 2002. At the time of the trade, the 23-year-old had compiled 34:20 K:BB with 25 H allowed in 31.1 IP for a 2.01 ERA over 22 appearances at AA West Tennessee in the Southern League after starting the season at A+ Daytona in the Florida State League. While Ramires has displayed dominance throughout the minors, he's also struggled with his control. Consequently, I don't expect him to make a substantial impact on the Rockies' major league team, though he may receive a few call-ups over the next few years, as Colorado is frequently in need of a fresh arm for the bullpen.
