by Jessica Polko Milwaukee dealt Eric Young to the Giants for RHP Greg Bruso yesterday. The Giants were looking to solidify their middle infield with Rich Aurilia just back from a DL trip following an appendectomy and Ray Durham probably out at least another two weeks with a hamstring injury. San Francisco drafted Bruso out of the University of California-Davis with their 16th round pick of the 2002 draft. He spent the remainder of last season at Salem-Keizer in the Short-Season Northwest League. The 23-year-old began the season at San Jose in the A+ California League but received a mid-season promotion to AA Norwich in the Eastern League where he had compiled a 45:11 K:BB with 72 H and 6 HR allowed in 76.1 IP for a 3.42 ERA over 11 starts at the time of the trade. While he doesn't appear to be a particularly dominant pitcher, his control skills indicate he should at least develop into a decent reliever. If he experiences success at AAA next season, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Brewers plug him into their 2004 rotation at the All-Star break.
