by Jessica Polko Kansas City made yet another move designed to bolster their pitching staff yesterday, as the Royals dealt LHP Aric LeClair to Arizona for Paul Abbott. Arizona drafted LeClair out of Indiana State University in the 19th round of the 2000 draft. However, after watching him struggle with control problems in at A South Bend in the Midwest League for two years the Diamondbacks released LeClair prior to the 2002 season. LeClair then signed with Albany-Colonie in the Independent Northern League where he caught the eye of the Royals, who purchased his contract from the club. At A+ Wilmington in the Carolina League this year, the 25-year-old has compiled a 53:30 K:BB with 32 H and 1 HR allowed in 38.2 IP for a 3.03 ERA over 32 appearances. As he hasn't corrected his control problems and remains in the low minors at 25, I don't expect LeClair to be prepared to contribute to a major league team anytime soon if ever. I'm not sure why Arizona wanted a second chance at the lefty reliever.
