by Jessica Polko Ken Griffey, Jr. made a swift comeback from his shoulder injury earlier this season and was surging toward a solid finish to the season despite several minor ailments when he ruptured a tendon in his right ankle last week, putting him out for the season. Reportedly, the tendon had been sore for a week and though he'd been receiving treatment when he put on an extra burst of speed while running out a double during the sixth inning of the Reds' July 17th game against Houston the tendon gave way. Griffey underwent surgery to repair the tendon that evening. He's expected to undergo shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and tighten his shoulder capsule sometime soon. The shoulder injuries were incurred when he dislocated his shoulder in early April, but he planned to play through them and have the surgery after the season. Now that he's out for the year because of his ankle, he can begin his rehab early, which will hopefully put him in position to be fully healthy heading into Spring Training.
