by Jessica Polko Last Sunday, San Diego sent Matt Herges to San Francisco for Clay Hensley and a player to be named later or cash. San Francisco drafted Hensley out of Lamar University with their eighth round pick in the 2002 draft. He spent the remainder of last season at Salem-Keizer in the Short-Season Northwest League. Hensley began the 2003 season at A Hagerstown in the South Atlantic Leauge, where he compiled a 74:20 K:BB with 56 H and 4 HR allowed in 68 IP for a 3.18 ERA over 12 starts before San Diego promoted him to A+ Lake Elsinore in the California League. He was still adjusting to the new league at the time of the trade and had compiled a 25:9 K:BB with 38 H and 4 HR allowed in 29.1 IP for a 5.83 ERA over 5 starts.
