by Jessica Polko When Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling were both on the disabled list earlier this year, the situation didn't seem to necessarily spell disaster for the Diamondbacks, as Schilling was only going to miss a couple of starts due to appendicitis and Johnson's knee injury reportedly wasn't serious. Unfortunately, Johnson's knee problem seems to grow more severe every few weeks, and yesterday Arizona placed Schilling on the disabled list with two broken bones in his hand. Johnson is now considering receiving three Synvisc injections, which would partially compensate for the missing cartilage in his knee by providing an artificial cushion. The perceived need for these shots troubles me, though Arizona is attempting to insure that once he returns he will be good for the rest of the season. Regardless of Johnson's decision regarding the shots, he isn't expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks until after the All-Star break.
