Pitchers with 2 starts to deploy only in leagues that don't count qualitative stats:
Despite the concerns regarding a move into the rotation for Dempster, we don't want to spend a free agent move on Jose Valverde this week. If we lose Dempster at some point, we'll look first for a far cheaper option like Al Reyes.
SP(6) We want to run Oswalt with Santana and Smoltz, but we want to deploy Pujols in Colorado far more. We'll take our cheaper singles, Young and Burnett, to join Santana, Smoltz, Peavy, and Papelbon, also skipping Sheets due to his blister concerns. Ryan Howard returns to the lineup for the slumping Hafner, and for cap reasons, Atkins will play for Wright. Subbing Bill Hall for Drew also hopefully will give us a little extra power boost while McCann and Baldelli stay benched.

Catcher: While we hoped to take Joe Mauer, we instead will default to Brian McCann(880) and Russ Martin(680), who at least provide decent production at reasonable costs. However, we also want a third option, and since we expect to have money to spend in the initial weeks, we decided that Victor Martinez(1310) seemed reasonable given that his increased power production makes him a decent roto comp. for David Ortiz thus far. First Base: We didn't hesitate before rostering Justin Morneau(1180) and Prince Fielder(910), and though we almost drafted an expensive slugger like David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis(580) emerged as a much more intriguing given his BA and runs. Second Base: A very weak position with no obvious choices other than Kelly Johnson(400). After considering Kaz Matsui, we instead opted for Howie Kendrick(520) and Ian Kinsler(630) since both appear generally healthier than Matsui. Third Base: Until his recent injury issues, Chipper Jones seemed a lock, but we instead opted for Mike Lowell(1070) as a good addition to the more obvious choices of Mark Teahen(750) and B.J. Upton(410), who provides so much quantitative upside that even a .250 BA over the balance of the year wouldn't really bother us. Shortstop: No position proved easier to fill as we'll deploy Jose Reyes(1610), Hanley Ramirez(1100), and J.J. Hardy(420) nearly every week. Outfield: With the cap room to run one really expensive player, we opted for Vlad Guerrero(1880) as the safest overall play since his developing plate discipline now supports his overall offensive profile. The automatic bargains here look like Magglio Ordonez(820), Ken Griffey(790), and Shane Victorino(560), and given his upside and upcoming schedule through the end of the half, Matt Holliday(1410) remains a great pick. Our last couple of spots proved tougher to fill, though both Alex Rios(1000) and Grady Sizemore(1380) offer solid overall production for their prices. Starters: We started with a list of over thirty pitchers that appealed to us, and after dismissing a few guys on bad teams, such as Erik Bedard and James Shields, a few we just don't trust, like Rich Hill and Oliver Perez, and the recently-injured Ben Sheets, Randy Johnson, and Brett Myers, we then cut out list by examining each pitcher's upcoming schedule. Our first round of selections included Johan Santan(1960), Roy Oswalt(1550), John Smoltz(1260), C.C. Sabathia(1040), Daisuke Matsuzaka(950), Dan Haren(940), and Cole Hamels(660), along with the only automatic pick of Jon Papelbon(900). Quick additions to that group included Randy Wolf(490) and Tim Hudson(880). Despite a mildly worrisome double this week against the Mets and Phillies, Tim Lincecum(750) also seemed too good to ignore. Then, with a diminishing number of good double-starts during the first three weeks, we went ahead and rostered Jake Peavy(1180) and John Lackey(1040), outstanding plays in general but not on our original list since schedule flukes may leave both pitchers with just single-starts each week of June. Of course, their singles should produce almost as much value as most pitchers' double starts. With thirteen starting slots filled and a plan to take fourteen starters, a high number but as many as we've used at times, we narrowed our last choice to Brandon Webb, Jered Weaver, Joe Blanton, Josh Beckett, and Jeremy Bonderman. The schedules of Webb, Weaver, and Blanton just didn't appeal to us, and while we love Beckett when healthy, Bonderman(1000) enjoys a better upcoming schedule and already posted one solid start since returning from the DL. He claims the last slot on our staff. Reliever: Few players even looked like serious options here given the stratified salaries. As in DC, Francisco Cordero(1260) and Takashi Saito(1200) remain fantastic plays, as does Jose Valverde(1100) despite a schedule that has him facing Saito thirteen times over the balance of the year. While we also expect to Tampa to trade him by the deadline, Al Reyes(750) remains a great bargain for the next month or two and appears an easy choice over Dan Wheeler, Salomon Torres, and Joe Borowski to complete our bullpen.
SP(6) Along with the four doubles of Santana, Smoltz, Bonderman, and Lincecum, and given our desire to deploy Papelbon as much as possible, we only have one spot left for the multiple solid singles. By virtue of facing a terrible opponent and appearing as hot as anyone in the majors, Haren appears an easy call for the last roster spot. Kinsler sits for Kendrick given an awful schedule this week, as does the struggling McCann. For the moment, Youkilis will cede the DH spots to Hardy and Upton, and then with Santana active, we're slightly short of the cap room to run Sizemore.

SP(6) We're not going to run Papelbon against Borowski, and we see no reason to risk using Sheets when he might not start. Santana, Maddux, Haren, Cain, and even Beckett seem fairly easy calls, and then with Dice-K slightly less likely to pitch five innings than Felix due to their respective ailments, Felix claims the last rotation slot. Current reports indicate that Bonds will sit Tuesday, prior to facing Glavine and El Duque Wednesday and Thursday. We don't see much upside with that schedule so will bench Barry in favor of Howard. To get us under the cap, Atkins subs for Wright, who joins Bonds, Iannetta, Hall, and Baldelli on our bench.

SP(6) We're not risking a zero for Sheets, and since we want as many wins as possible here, we're strongly inclined to use Santana, Oswalt, Peavy, Beckett, and Hamels. Young fits our cap the best of the remaining starters. We see fewer viable options on offense than on our pitching staff with Mauer, Kinsler, Hall, Drew, and Baldelli appearing fairly useless right now. Howard will sub for Wright, and then to bring us under the cap, Chris B. Young will replace Bonds.
