Today's Fantasy Rx
Welcome to our weekly LPR rankings, our primary method of identifying highly skilled and/or consistently effective pitchers. While we have not changed this system since last season, feel free to refer to this key for a complete description of the codes. We have included the five most recent 2006 QA scores for each starter, along with the 10 most recent QA scores for each reliever, tabulating all data through August 9th. Pitchers with no QA scores have not pitched this year, so do not roster any of them unless you see someone ready to return to the majors.

Moving to Arizona may increase Hernandez's risk of disaster due to his new park, however the added offense and bullpen support will translate into more wins.

Jon Lieber(22205)
Maholm's skills continue to improve ever since we first saw him released by our fellow owners in two different leagues. He looked like the Pirates' safest young pitcher heading into the year, and although he may not offer much immediate qualitative help, I like both his short-term and long-term prospects.

Scott Olsen(34434)
Anthony Reyes(44333)
Elizardo Ramirez(34300)
Several solid rookie pitchers appear overshadowed by baseball's cadre of shockingly dominant youngsters. The skill levels respectively demonstrated by Olsen and Reyes suggest as much promise as almost any of their NL ROY contenders, however their lower profiles should make them cheaper in trade talks.

I doubt you need me to warn you away from Lohse as a starter on the Reds, but if you're new to Rotohelp, please avoid Lohse as a starter on the Reds for the sake of your ERA and WHIP.

Everyone in Houston's bullpen continues to impress me, but among the Astros' middle reliever, Wheeler maintains a slight edge on Qualls, Borowski, and Springer due to his more extensive history of posting successful skill sets. With Minute Maid playing increasingly neutral since the name change, don't be afraid to deploy any of this quartet or even Trevor Miller if looking for short-term roster filler.
b
y - Clay Hensley(34443)
Despite his lack of dominance this year, Hensley's recent performance indicates he still retains plenty of long-term upside. Consider him a perfectly viable fourth or fifth starter when looking to upgrade the back end of your rotation.

QA score for relief outings: up to 5 total points, one for each statistical goal, to any reliever who retires at least one batter and fulfills any of the following skill qualifications: K>=IP, BB=0, H<=IP, HR=0, and G-F>=1.00. Any reliever who doesn't reach any of the required statistical goals or fails to retire a batter earns a 0 QA score. Scores of 5 and 4 qualify as DOMinant outings, a 3 is DULl, and anything below 3 ranks as a skill DISaster.
Starters must pitch in five games before earning any of the following DOM or DIS ratings; relievers must appear in no less than 10 games before earning DOM/DIS consideration.
