Diamond Challenge

We desperately need more HR, RBI, and Runs here, so we're adding Miguel Tejada, who provides a dramatic upgrade on Jose Reyes at SS, as well as picking up Jason Lane as a free agent, cutting Jeremy Reed, who just isn't adding enough quantitatively here. Tejada replaces Guillermo Mota, who could miss the entire month and plays for the team with the fewest save opportunities in the majors last month.

While Buck continues to worry us, we just don't see a significantly better option. If he starts producing as we expect, he'll have a lot more value to us than Joe Mauer, easily the popular pick at catcher.

SP(6)
Randy Johnson: Wed:@TB(H.Nomo)
Johan Santana: Fri:@TB(D.Brazelton)
Jason Schmidt: Mon:@ARI(Ru.Ortiz); Sat:WAS(E.Loaiza)
Pedro Martinez: Mon:PHI(J.Lieber); Sat:@NYM(B.Sheets?)
Roy Oswalt: Fri:@ATL(J.Smoltz)?
Roger Clemens: Wed:PIT(M.Redman)
Ben Sheets: Sat:NYM(P.Martinez)???
Mark Mulder: Wed:@CIN(B.Claussen)
Jake Peavy: Wed:COL(J.Jennings)
Rich Harden: Mon:TEX(K.Rogers); Sat:@NYY(M.Mussina)
A.J. Burnett: Wed:@ATL(T.Hudson)
Josh Beckett: Sat:COL(S.Chacon)
Miguel Batista: 3 Road at BAL; 3 Home vs. CHW.

With wins almost more important than saves to us after good weeks from Batista and Lyon, as well as Batista facing the two best AL clubs this week, he'll sit in favor of more starters. Randy, Santana, and Peavy edge Beckett, who struggled on Sunday and again faces a long layoff, joining Schmidt, Pedro, and Harden in the rotation.

Tejada replaces Reyes, Morneau forces Pujols to the bench for cap reasons, the newly-acquired Lane starts for Holliday, and then Iguchi subs for Giles due to a slightly superior schedule and a need to fit under the cap. David Wright remains at the end of our bench until we start seeing more quantitatively from him.

Tejada also joins our team here to help fix our lack of power. With Helton offering us nothing, we instead will keep Mota here until we either see a better move or hopefully he returns to give us additional salary flexibility.

No starts: Santana, Oswalt, Sheets, Beckett.

With Schmidt and Mulder looking questionable and a desperate need for wins here, Randy, Pedro, Clemens, Peavy, Harden, and Burnett will comprise our rotation. Dotel returns to the lineup for Mota.

Tejada obviously forces Reyes to the bench, and then Iguchi and Reed sub for Giles and Hafner to get us under the cap.

Fantasy Baseball & Budget Baseball
(Same game = same rosters and moves for both teams)

Mota's injury requires a move here, so we'll echo our DC/IC moves from last week, adding Brandon Lyon and cutting Mota.

Selecting six starters seems surprisingly easy with two doubles, two aces in Tampa, and two aces facing the Rockies outside of Colorado.

Buck, Pujols, and Drew replace Closser, Helton, and Holliday with the Rockies on the road. Morneau then replaces Eric Chavez while Hudson, Ensberg, K.Greene, and Kearns remain benched.

Today's Fantasy Rx: Begin spending your Challenge moves if you see any needs. With more than 15% of the season completed, you can't afford to let slow starters remain active in national contests if you possess any reasonable alternative. Brian Roberts remains the only must-own player here, but Clint Barmes and a couple of Florida starters remain equally excellent bargains, and I can't fault anyone for adding Derrek Lee as a better option than Teixeira, Hafner, Morneau, Pujols, and Helton.
