2004 Hitting: September NL Overachievers
by Tim Polko

Today's Fantasy Rx

Arizona: Chris Snyder, C
15/66 for .227/.325/.500 with 5 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 0/0 SB%,
and a 10:20 BB:K.
104/346 for .301/.389/.520 with 15 HR, 57 RBI, 66 R, 3/4 SB%,
and a 46:57 BB:K for AA El Paso(TL).

The Diamondbacks rushed Snyder to the majors last month when Koyie Hill suffered a season-ending injury. While he ranks as the best defensive prospect among Arizona's young catchers and may possess the best offensive skills, a poor .70 contact rate in the majors indicates he needs another year of development. Of course, Snyder could steal the starting job from Hill next spring given his relatively strong September and unexpected power surge. A 4.30 #P/PA and 1.10 G-F also demonstrate excellent long-term potential, yet only gambling owners should target the youngster next spring due to his significant BA downside.

We'll continue tomorrow with American League overachieving pitchers.

Today's Fantasy Rx: A few players who earned significant profit in most leagues this season shouldn't equal even half their current values in 2005 and thus rank as prime trade bait this winter. Jack Wilson, J.T. Snow, and Endy Chavez rank as the NL position players most likely to slump severely next year.
