2004 Hitting: August NL Roto Prospects

Today's Fantasy Rx

Arizona: Josh Kroeger, 21, OF-L
43/144 for .299/.329/.521 with 6 HR, 25 RBI, 20 R, 1/2 SB%,
and a 7:32 BB:K for AAA Tucson(PCL).
81/245 for .331/.393/.588 with 9 HR, 46 RBI, 44 R, 2/3 SB%,
and a 21:48 BB:K for AA El Paso(TL).

While Kroeger continues to play in strong hitters' parks, his solid BA and power production make him a strong candidate for a September cup-of-coffee, which could lead to a starting job at either corner outfield spot for Arizona next spring. He rebounded nicely after a slow start with Tucson and now ranks as the next likely call-up on the Sidewinders. Although I don't expect Kroeger to secure a long-term job at the BOB with Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin, Luis Terrero, and possibly Scott Hairston and Sergio Santos as outfield competition, he possesses intriguing short-term potential as a power source in a home field very conducive to his skills. Definitely target the youngster since the combination of his age, level, and overall production could result in a double-digit fantasy value as soon as 2005.

We'll continue tomorrow with American League pitching prospects.

Today's Fantasy Rx: Moving to Philadelphia probably gives Cory Lidle an extra two wins, however his qualitative and homer problems should worsen. Don't plan to employ him regularly in standard leagues unless desperate for wins. Josh Hancock also doesn't appear ready to contribute as Lidle's replacement in Cincinnati due to his questionable skills in relief, so wait until he compiles a couple of decent outings before rostering the 26-year-old rookie.
