by Tim Polko Note: The beginning of most stat lines includes the following data: H/AB for BA/OBP/SLG.
The Angels bought Delgado from St. Louis at the beginning of the month to help fill their injury-depleted middle infield. Obviously Delgado's season-long stats are terrible, however his .324/.405/.324 in 37 at-bats this September made him a decent roto play for the last few weeks. His surprising stats seem due to extreme skill ratios that wildly diverge from his career norms, including a 4.21 #P/PA and 5.33 G-F. Delgado previously posted similar numbers in different years, but combining excellent patience with limiting the number of weak fly balls he hits suggests he might develop into a decent fantasy option soon. Unfortunately the return to health of David Eckstein and Alfredo Amezaga sends him back to the bench, so you should deal or cut Delgado as he isn't a keeper and won't contribute over the balance of the season. Previous Overachievers: April: Brad Fullmer; May: Jeff DaVanon; June: Garrett Anderson; July: Bengie Molina; August: Adam Riggs.
