by Tim Polko Note: The beginning of most stat lines includes the following data: H/AB for BA/OBP/SLG.
Junior Spivey's injury created a starting job at second for Kata, and while he likely will hit the bench or even return to the minors once Craig Counsell returns, he certainly looks good right now. Kata turned 25 in March, and while he didn't look like a top prospect heading into the season, he at least owned a decent contact rate and displayed promising power potential. Of course, Kata's .289/.327/.448 this year in 201 at-bats at AAA Tucson(PCL), along with 3 HR, 25 RBI, 31 R, 2/5 SB%, and a 9:29 BB:K indicated little immediate upside, so although I like his walk rate and .60 G-F, a .79 contact rate and 3.38 #P/PA don't suggest he can maintain this level of play. Look to deal him now to a rebuilding team that believes he could continue starting.
May Overachiever: Chad Moeller, C Previous Overachievers: April: Carlos Baerga, 2B.
