Third Basemen Week starts tomorrow!
Today's Fantasy Rx: Jesus Medrano and Bernie Castro are the only two impressive
prospects on today's list, however both have the chance to emerge as $20+ leadoff men as
soon as 2004. I'm somewhat concerned about Medrano winding up on another team since
he's only qualified for second base, but Florida seems more likely to move Luis Castillo,
negating the trade risk involved in drafting Medrano. Castro worries me due to his
inconsistent track record, and I think he might need an extra year of seasoning,
although he probably faces the clearest path to the majors as long as he demonstrates
solid leadoff abilities.
Chris Burke of Houston is technically at a similar stage of development, but he really
should have spent this season at A+. I'm uncomfortable recommending him as anything
more than a low-round flyer until he demonstrates solid skills at AA.
