Colorado: 6 Home games: 3 vs. Cincinnati; 3 vs. Chicago Cubs.
Chicago Cubs: 7 Home games: 4 vs. Houston; 3 vs. Arizona.
Houston: 7 Road games: 4 at Chicago Cubs; 3 at Cincinnati. Texas: 5 Homes games: 2 vs. Chicago White Sox; 3 vs. Toronto. Chicago White Sox: 5 Road games: 2 at Texas; 3 at Oakland. Teams with six home games: Anaheim, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Florida, Minnesota, Montreal, New York Mets, Oakland, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Tampa Bay. All other teams play six games with at least three on the road.
We ran our offense, and despite a decently good day by Sosa on Saturday before he took a seat, we lost ground thus far since we saw Randy in fear of a post-150-pitch outing blowup or two. If we had run Randy, we'd have sat Kerry and ARod(both on the road) while running Drew. Here's the difference through six days: On pitching, we lost 2 wins and 18 K while gaining .032 ERA and .081 WHIP, for a net loss of approximately 2525 points: 328 in wins, 97 in K, 146 in ERA, and 1954(1) in WHIP. On offense, we gained .0002 in BA, 4 RBI, and 1 SB, for a net gain of approximately 305 points: 46 in BA, 197 in RBI, and 62 in SB. So by deviating from our established strategy for one week, we lost 2220 points, and seven places in standings, leaving us 9th and 10th instead of 2nd and 3rd. However there's still no reason we can't rebound into the top 5 since we lost a lead bigger than those ahead of us currently hold. So our new (old) strategy for the rest of the year will be to use the best possible pitchers, first running two steps and then completing our staff with the best single starts while neglecting our offense if necessary. Hopefully we'll regain our lost ground in pitching while not losing too much more on offense. Diamond Challenge
SP(6) Of course we'd own four and potentially five doubles while Randy, Pedro, and Schilling will probably dominate on the road. However we see no reason not to run Clemens, Morris, Wood, or Oswalt, and even if Zito doesn't double, he's throwing a fairly safe single. The four Rockies sit, and since we don't want to run any of them on the road and Konerko only has five games this week, we'll sit him to deploy Drew and Jeremy Giambi. Our one alternative is to pick up Hunter as we've considered for the past few weeks, but he's been in relativley unproductive for the past few weeks and Minnesota is tied for the major league lead in games played, so we'd be giving up a couple games of potential production over alternate potential additions. Drew and Jeremy might stop playing so awful one of these weeks, and after placing so much faith in them for the last four months, we don't mind keeping them active now.

SP(6) We have the same four doubles here of Clemens, Morris, Wood, and Oswalt, along with the potential Zito double and Gagne. Helton, Walker, and Pierre will obviously sit, and given the reduced cap room here, we need to also bench Drew. While we could deploy Drew for Burrell, we're not convinced that Drew will see more playing time despite the additional potential game.
We don't like any of this week's free agents, but we'll seriously consider Aaron Boone
next week, and potentially Mulder or Washburn in two weeks in conjunction with roster
expansion. SP(6) No starts: Pedro, Schilling, Mussina, and Halladay. We're more comfortable with Wood than Oswalt, and with Vazquez destroying our WHIP every time he pitches, we'll stay with Randy, Clemens, Morris, Zito, Wood, and Gagne. While we can easily sit Helton, Walker, and Pierre, we need to use Uribe since ARod only has two games, as does Konerko. Lastly, Sosa and Vlad play at home with Bonds benched on the road. While we could deploy Konerko or Pierre instead of someone like Drew, we don't believe using the extra 350 in cap space is more important than deploying our strongest lineup. However since we're stronger in saves than strikeouts, we'll use deploy Oswalt instead of Gagne since that appears to be a better use of cap space at this time.

SP(6) Clemens, Morris, Wood, and Oswalt are easy plays, as is Gagne. We'll round out our staff with Pedro, currently running a streak of six straight PQS 5 starts. We actually ran into problems spending our cap space. We'd normally sit Helton, Walker, Pierre, and Uribe on the road, but we're going to deploy Walker as otherwise we're about 1500 under the cap, and we like his upside better than Junior Spivey. The rest of our offense largely rests on attrition, as Nick Johnson's on the DL, Floyd's hurting, and we don't know how often Drew or Jeremy Giambi will play. As we're very comfortable with deploying our remaining offensive players, we don't need to spend one of our last two monves.

Zito, Oswalt, and Burnett look quite good, and Gagne should also be fine. Then we like Garcia and Halladay at home to round out the starters. Walker and Helton sit on the road but we're going to run Bonds since we have the cap room and he should have a nice run now that the 600 pressure is off. Konerko sits with his five games, as does Floyd with potential injury problems, and Hall and Jeremy Giambi due to uncertain playing time. We're not too fond of the schedules of Castillo or Hinske, so they round out our bench. As we have some extra cap room, we're going to deploy Pedro instead of Garcia since Pedro's dominated in his last ten starts while Garcia's only dominated in two of his last six starts.
