We'll begin American League Pitchers with AL Starters tomorrow.

Today's Fantasy Rx: At least a couple dozen of these pitchers deserve a look in the majors, and leading this rather impressive AL West class are the Padres' Tankersley, Peavey, and Howard and the Giants' Williams. The main reason that these players would make good draft picks is because they're both likely to be ready for the majors by sometime in 2003 at the latest and aren't blocked by high-salaried players in the majors. Victor Alvarez of LA looks very impressive until you realize that the Dodgers will soon have 6 starters signed through 2002 at $4M+ and 5 signed through 2003 at $4M+, and that's not including potential #3 starters like Gagne and Odalis Perez. Make sure when considering pitchers that your players have somewhere to go. A great hitter will find a lineup spot but a very good pitcher is a higher injury risk and therefore better trade bait. Don't go overboard in drafting minor league depth. Focus on players that can contribute immediately, and even if your team is similarly deep at pitching, you can always trade them if necessary to another team with an even bigger prospect fixation.
